Qualifications offered at the Ski Shack
The Introductory Avalanche Safety Course (AST1) will provide a framework for decision-making in beginner-level avalanche terrain that is based on the most recent knowledge available.
Only offered in french.
Course objectives:

Describe avalanche formation and trigger factors;

Recognize avalanche terrain;
​

Plan and complete a mountain outing using available resources;

Describe and practice safe techniques in avalanche terrain;

Perform an autonomous rescue.​

The Advanced Avalanche Safety Course (AST 2) will provide a framework for decision making in intermediate level avalanche terrain that is based on the most advanced knowledge available.
Course objectives:

Use the Avaluatorâ„¢ as a decision-making tool to determine when additional planning and safe travel techniques are required;

Be familiar with avalanche danger rating verification techniques for personal use on a local scale;

Be familiar with the technical model of the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale as a personal means of developing local terrain ratings;
-
Use a choice of routes to take advantage of the nuances of the terrain and manage personal risks;
-
Use techniques for moving in avalanche terrain appropriate to avalanche conditions;
-
Know how to carry out an autonomous rescue with great skill.
AST 2
Advanced wilderness First Aid
(Sirius 40h)
Course objectives:

Master the theoretical and practical notions of first aid in isolated regions;
​

Support for the situation and the victim;
​

Leadership, obligations and responsibilities of the first aider;
​

Injury prevention, wound and trauma care;
​

Specialized first aid kits
This training now represents the minimum standard for outdoor professionals working in the wilderness. It is strongly recommended to any worker who works in isolated regions.
The content of the course goes far beyond that of the first aid programs in an urban environment and it deepens the specific aspects of first aid administered in remote areas beyond the reach of emergency medical services.
Training price : $515 + taxes / person / 4 days
Training dates : January 15-16-18-19 & March 16-17-18-19
Please note the following when booking
* For group reservations, possibility of making a 20% deposit when booking. The balance must be paid 30 days before the start of the stay. Payments by Interac transfer are preferred.

* Possibility of modifying the dates of the stay maximum 14 days in advance. No cancellation possible. If health measures relating to COVID-19 prevent activities from being held, they will be postponed to a later date.

Participants for the Guided stay must meet the following conditions:

Already practice the sport of alpine skiing or snowboarding and have at least an intermediate level.

Be in acceptable physical condition for the practice of alpine ski touring.
-
Be an annual member of the FQME($22).
-
People with health problems and pregnant women cannot participate in the activities.
